What is Mediation:

  • Mediation is informal, with very few rules and legal technicalities-just plain talk.

  • Mediation can be done at any time, including before filing a Court case.

  • Mediation is less formal and less costly than engaging in arbitration.

  • Mediation is a confidential process between the parties to resolve a dispute or problem, using the help of an experienced third party.

  • Mediation is private, and mediators are not decision makers-they help the parties come to their own voluntary agreements after allowing all parties to air their grievances and concerns.

If an agreement cannot be reached during mediation, arbitration or other court proceedings are always available to provide a resolution to the issue.

Benefits of Mediation

  • The neighborhood in question will be repaired and neighbors will have settled any former disagreements.
  • Mediation allows for important and meaningful relationships to be preserved or repaired.
  • Mediation helps participants communicate and manage conflict.
  • Mediation allows for all opinions and issues to be heard.
  • Mediation is less stressful and usually more cost effective than arbitration.
