Step 1: Oral Proficiency Interviews (OPI)

Oral Proficiency Interviews will begin on January 15, 2025.

 

  • It is imperative to test language fluency at a college level for all working languages, without any exceptions, including English native speakers
  • English and Target Language $ 110

Step 2: Pre-Certification Orientation to Court Interpreting

All applicants must pass the Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) before registering for the Orientation to Court Interpreting. This is a two-day event.

Both dates must be attended for the successful completion.

This training program aims to equip aspiring Court Interpreters with a thorough understanding of the legal process and fundamentals. Some focus areas are civics, legal process, Colorado courts, the role of the court interpreter, and Ethics.

Step 4: Skills Building Workshop

Skills Building Workshop Information IN PERSON

All applicants must have successfully passed the written exam, taken and passed an OPI, and attended  Pre-Orientation to Court Interpreting in order to be eligible to attend the Skills Building Workshop. The Skills Building Workshop is designed to help participants develop effective study techniques and enhance their interpreting abilities across all three modes required for a court interpreter. This workshop is also aimed at assisting individuals in successfully passing the oral exam. 

  • Cost: $100
  • Where: In person

Required Materials

  • Laptop with the charger
  • Recorder device with charger (you can use your smartphone, make sure you have a recording app and you know how to use it.) 
  • Wired headset with microphone to connect with your computer.
  • Earphones for your recording device

Step 5: Oral Certification Exam

All applicants for the Oral Certification Exam must have successfully passed the written exam, taken and passed an OPI, attended both days of Orientation to Court Interpreting, and attended the Skills Building Workshop.
