Robert R. Gunning

Judge Gunning was appointed as a District Court Judge in October 2022. His prior judicial officer experience includes service as a District Court Magistrate in the 20th Judicial District from 2013-2019, as an Administrative Law Judge with the State Personnel Board from 2011-2013, and as a relief Municipal Court Judge for the cities of Boulder and Westminster from 2019-2021.  Judge Gunning also served as a mediator, arbitrator, and special master with the Accord ADR Group from 2019-2022.  He practiced civil litigation with Maxfield Gunning, LLP (2019-2021), Silverstein & Pomerantz, LLP (2004-2011 & 2021-2022), the Boulder County Attorney’s Office (1999-2004), and Victor F. Boog, P.C. (1996-1999).

Judge Gunning also serves as an Adjunct Law Professor at the University of Colorado Law School.  He received his undergraduate degree from the College of William & Mary (1990) and his law degree from the University of California, Berkeley (1993).
