Judge Lyons was appointed to the district court in 2013. Previously, he provided pro bono legal services through the Lend-A-Lawyer program in Montrose. He then served as a public defender in Pueblo, Logan, Morgan and Weld counties. In 2001, he was one of five attorneys who formed a law partnership specializing in criminal defense, and later served as the managing partner. Immediately prior to his appointment, he was Senior Litigation Counsel specializing in commercial litigation for Otis, Coan & Peters, LLC.
Judge Lyons is a graduate of Capital University Law School in Columbus, Ohio. He received his undergraduate degree in economics from Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa.
Judge Lyons currently presides over civil, domestic relations, and probate cases. He also handles administrative, municipal, and county court appeals. Judge Lyons is assigned to Division 3.
Judge Lyons is the alternate water judge for Colorado's Water Division 1.
