Magistrate Johnson was appointed as District Court Magistrate in July 2021. Prior to his appointment he was in private practice focusing on family law and criminal defense at the Bagley Law Firm and later, Caplan & Earnest. Before entering into private practice he was a prosecutor for over 20 years in Boulder County. During his time there, he served as the Chair of the Domestic Violence Management Board. He taught statewide and nationally in a variety of areas including domestic violence, sexual assault, trial skills, and cybercrimes. Magistrate Johnson graduated from the University of Colorado School of Law and was admitted to the Colorado Bar in 1997. Magistrate Johnson's docket consists of domestic relations matters, including temporary orders regarding financial matters, modifications of child support and maintenance, as well as name changes of minors and adoptions.
