Career
Prior to his appointment to the court, Judge Kuhn served as a Senior Assistant Attorney General in the Colorado Attorney General’s Office from 2010 to 2021. He served in both the Health Care Unit and the Public Officials Unit. In those roles, he represented government clients, handling all aspects of advice, litigation, and appeals. His practice focused on healthcare, public health, and the complex constitutional and legal questions faced by elected officials and government agencies. Before joining the Attorney General’s Office, Judge Kuhn was in private practice, focusing on probate and trust law.
Judge Kuhn has been admitted to practice before the Colorado and California state courts, the United States District Courts for the Districts of Colorado and Oregon, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.
Professional Activities and Civic Engagement
Judge Kuhn is active in many professional organizations. He is a member of the Minoru Yasui Inn of Court, which is dedicated to improving the skills, professionalism, and ethics of the bench and bar, and the Colorado LGBTQ+ Bar Association. He is also a trustee for a national foundation focused on innovations in aging. Judge Kuhn volunteers to support the local law schools and participates in a micro-mentoring program for law students. He co-chairs the Appellate Courts Technology Committee.
Education
Judge Kuhn received his Juris Doctor (Order of St. Ives) from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree with distinction, majoring in biology, from Colorado College.
Personal
Judge Kuhn grew up in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he attended high school. He enjoys cooking, gardening, and travel.
