General Statement Of Duties
Provide administrative support to the Managing Court Interpreter.
Distinguishing Factors
The Language Access Administrative Support position is employed through a temporary contract whose duration will not exceed nine months. The position is distinguished by the focus on administrative duties to support the Managing Court Interpreter.
Essential Functions Of the Position
Scheduling functions:
- Identify needs for Spanish and LOTS interpreters in the dockets.
- Assist with ensuring enough coverage.
- Communicate with the contractors about the mode/means/length/location and other details of the assignment to confirm shift acceptance.
- Pull case-related information for long hearings and trials, to send to the assigned interpreters.
- Communicate about billing (send updated invoices/reimbursements/financial sheets/allowed per-diems forms in advance).
- Plan and coordinate needs for lodging.
- Communicate about cancelations. Be familiar with the payment cancelation policy.
- Communicate with the other Managing Court Interpreters about availability of canceled interpreters.
Daily coordination functions:
- Last minute communications in between locations and interpreter. (to remedy or advise of lack of internet, road closures, lateness, wrong courtroom etc).
- Coordinate advisements and other last-minute needs.
- Be familiar with the District Website to assist with physical or Webex addresses.
- Be familiar with conference lines availability.
- Be familiar with the three modes of interpretation and how those work virtually.
Administrative Functions:
Attends meetings and trainings as required. Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisor Responsibilities
No supervisory responsibility. Responsibility for one’s own work product and work within a unit performing similar functions. May provide assistance or explain work instructions to co-workers.
Minimum Education
Graduation from high school or equivalent. The following qualifications are strongly preferred:
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree.
- Bilingual (Spanish-English) experience.
- Experience working in the legal field or in multi-cultural environments.
- Customer service and internal customer service experience.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to perform repetitive motions, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk/move about. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. This classification is subject to varying and unpredictable situations; may handle emergency or crisis situations; is subject to many interruptions; may handle multiple calls and inquiries simultaneously; and may occasionally handle absentee replacement on short notice.
