General Statement Of Duties

The Senior Audio/Visual (A/V) Engineer is responsible for the support and maintenance of courtroom A/V technologies. This includes architectural design, operating, maintaining, installing, configuring, repairing, and upgrading A/V products in the courtroom while also ensuring optimal performance and integration with other systems such as the Colorado Judicial Department’s (Department) network and court reporting equipment. The Senior A/V Engineer will analyze and resolve A/V issues in a timely and accurate fashion, as well as support user needs where required.

Distinguishing Factors

This position is distinguished by its focus on advanced A/V troubleshooting assistance for the Department and IT staff and implementing courtroom A/V best practices. The Senior AV Engineer acts as an escalation point for the AV Engineer I and AV Engineer II positions. The Senior AV Engineers focus is to complete projects, assist with AV architecture design, and handle escalated AV technical requests.

Essential Functions Of the Position

Manages and administers the Department’s entire AV infrastructure and its associated equipment.

Responsible for developing long-term strategies and capacity planning to meet future A/V equipment and IT infrastructure technology needs.

Responsible for the purchase of new A/V equipment and assist with its installation.

Collaborate with Department leadership and ITS teams in developing long-term strategies and capacity planning for meeting future AV and Unified Communications technology needs.

Helps manage and direct the installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of statewide A/V and video conference systems, including electronic docket monitors, court reporting equipment, and video conferencing equipment.

Responsible for the development of A/V equipment standards throughout the state, and maintains documentation for all instances of A/V and video conferencing equipment as it relates to maintenance, replacement cycles, and capital asset tracking.

Manages the procurement and implementation of large and small A/V projects throughout the Department. Tasks include reading and understand architectural and electrical drawings, site visits, creation of construction and system integration drawings and specifications, project budgeting, project commissioning and acceptance, understanding of configuration of digital signal processing and generation of program code.

Manage various vendor-based system installations and service issues and investigate new approaches to improve the Department’s A/V infrastructure.

Receive and respond to incoming tickets regarding A/V and video conferencing equipment/software issues, and occasionally requiring work to be completed outside normal business hours.

Provide end-user training to Department staff on the operation of various A/V and video conferencing technologies.

Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for A/V system administration and appropriate use.

Perform onsite analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of complex A/V hardware/software problems in the courtroom and recommend and implement corrective solutions.

Coordinates A/V related projects with Department leadership, County officials, and other state and local government agencies.

Travel throughout the state of Colorado is required and employee shall be compensated for per diem and mileage according to the Department’s travel fiscal rules.

Applicant must possess a valid driver’s license and may be required to drive at nighttime and occasionally in inclement weather.

Attend meetings and training as required.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisor Responsibilities

May have supervisory accountability for other employees, volunteers, or interns. Plans, directs and coordinates activities for a unit. Duties may include scheduling and assigning of work, training in all facets of work, quality control, and assists in making decisions impacting the pay, status and tenure of others.

Minimum Education

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree. Must have five (5) years of recent experience in the A/V field, including architectural and system design, and project management. Additional work experience in these or other related fields may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required formal education. CTS, CTS-D Certification preferred.

Physical Demands

The employee frequently is required to sit, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift/move 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
